NGC 5905, 10.3m, 11,5’X1,7′
Discovered by William Herschel 1788, May 5th

Moon rises 23.35h and brightens the sky

With this small telescope the galaxy was only visible in averted vision, but with structures: I could detect the brighter rim at the northwest side of the galaxy and I spied repeatedly the dark line or, in another description, a second “ray, very much extend, parallel to NGC 5907, and close preceding it” (Third Earl of Rosse in nineteenth century). Weak knots and nucleus.
